Spartak could avoid the meeting against SKA in the first round of playoffs but decided it after a couple of losses to face this powerhouse. Nobody could believe that Spartak take even one game in this series. Red-Whites also missed a couple players who are injured that is why coaches needed to recall from Khimik defenseman Vsevolod Sorokin and forwards Gleb Shashkov and Mikhail Kotlyarevsky.
It was a perfect start from Spartak, short shifts, very accurate plays without any mistakes. Okay, first penalty but SKA made only one shot on our net, as Julius Hudacek was unbelievable that night. We got our chances in first two power plays when Robin Hanzl and Martins Karsums converted these chances in real goals. Later in the game, our team tried to protect this result and did not allow SKA to get even closer to scoring that night. What a way to start the series. Red-Whites played their hockey all 60 minutes and got what they deserved.

SKA – Spartak – 0:2 (0:2, 0:0, 0:0)
Goals: 0:1 Hanzl (Dyblenko, Zubov, 17:26, PP), 0:2 Karsums (Fyodorov, 19:40, PP)
